Agency man arrested for trying to kill father

AGENCY - A man was arrested Monday for attempting to murder his father.

David Nordyke III, 36, of Agency, was charged with attempted murder following an investigation that commenced at 9:46 p.m. Monday. That was when the Wapello County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call advising that a male subject had been shot and was driving himself to the emergency room.

The caller stated that the shooter might still be at the scene of the incident, in the 8900 block of Fox Hills Road in Agency. Upon arrival, deputies discovered David Nordyke III and searched the residence. They later learned that the victim was Nordyke III's father, David Nordyke Jr., also of Agency. Nordyke Jr. went to the Jefferson County Health Center's emergency room, and was then taken by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Deputies arrested Nordyke III and took him to the Wapello County Jail.

A criminal charge is an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
