‘Sustainable Business in Iowa' author speaking at library
Local author Adam Hammes will present his award-winning book, 'Sustainable Business in Iowa,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Fairfield Public Library meeting room.
The book provides a simple framework for those committed to environmental and social performance. Hammes weaves together easy-to-understand models with local business examples. Drawing from his time as manager of sustainability for Kum & Go, a consultant, and executive director of the Iowa Sustainable Business Forum, he explains what sustainable business means and documents the ways in which environmental and social responsibility programs unfold inside for-profit companies.
Thirty case studies from 23 Iowa businesses illustrate how to assess an organization and take the next successful steps. Some case studies will be recognizable, and many will be new.
'Sustainable Business in Iowa” is winner of 2018 Independent Press Award, best book in Environment category and the 2018 National Indie Excellence Award, best book in Green Living category.
PHOTO SUBMITTED Jessica Hawthorne-Castro, CEO of Fairfield-based Hawthorne Direct, has won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Transformational Leader category. Though Hawthorne-Castro won the award in the Los Angeles division, her father, Tim Hawthorne, received the same award nearly 20 years ago in the Midwest region for his work with the agency. This is the first time in EY's history that the same company has won for the transformation within a company.
