For the past several years, the Fairfield Beautification Commission has brought ?Adopt a Home? to the Fairfield community, which spruced up and painted homes with paint provided by Diamond Vogel and a Keep Iowa Beautiful grant.
This year on June 9th and 10th, 23 Cambridge employees partnered with the Fairfield Beautification Commission to ?Adopt the Elks Club.? This project focused on the back side of the building due to its visibility to those who use the municipal parking lot or drive along Second Street or Burlington Ave. The building was in need of a deep clean to remove vines and dirt. The first day a small group of Cambridge employees battled thunderstorms to properly prepare the building for paint. The following day, the remainder of the employee-volunteers showed up bright and early to make the best use of the forecasted morning without thunderstorms. The crew quickly got the surface painted and worked on some intricate trim work in order to give the building a good historical color palette. All in all, the project went very, very well...especially since the last paint was put on with about two hours to dry before Fairfield got hit with a heavy afternoon rain.
The alley view of the Elks building is looking fantastic, and the Beautification Commission wants to give thanks to those who helped make this happen.
First of all, to the Elks for allowing us to adopt them for this year?s project, and again to Diamond Vogel Paints and Keep Iowa Beautiful.
To an always supportive Fairfield partner, Cambridge Investment Research for being flexible enough to allow their employees a paid day off for a community betterment project.
Rick Smith Construction for allowing us to use ladders long enough to get us 30 feet in the air!
Matthieu Tourenne for preparing delicious croissants for breakfast and wraps for lunch.
Lindsay Lippincott for running point on documenting this occasion.
And, most of all, the volunteers! Ryan Bell who chaired our 2011 project (and will be greatly missed as a Beautification member as he leaves) along with Rhonda Holton, Andrea Smith, Courtney Belzer, Kristina Ryder, Filipe Navesse, Michelle Nabiliwa, Kaylee Stooksberry, Brian Reid, Bryon Stever, Jeffrey Voreis, Seth Talbot, Shaughnessy Silvers, Erica Vories, Heather Miller, Cameron Smith, Mayree Workman, Troy Waugh, and Timothy Shea.
