The Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield has an exhibit dedicated to the “Highlights of Business and Industry in Fairfield.”
The company currently featured in the exhibit is The Nelson Company. Pete Nelson was born and raised in this community and graduated from Fairfield High School and Parsons College.
He began his career at Fairfield Engineering and moved to The Dexter Company. Pete saw the need for a company that would produce needed products for The Dexter Company as well as Fairfield Aluminum Castings and other manufacturers.
He enlisted a group of advisors, including Ilef Leu, Fairfield High School Machine Shop – “Knowledge,” Ron Blough, Fairfield Engineering, Tool Engineering – “Industry”, John Hunt, Hunt Machines, Custom Machining – “Experience”, Stu Gaumer, Dexter Company, P & L – “Finance” Ward Hunt, FALCO, Customers - “Sales Approach”, and Vic Rail, Parsons, Logic “Multi Task” to be his mentors and with that vision he was able to create The Nelson Company in 1972.
There have been many successes for his business and local staff has grown to be the dynamic leadership of today. They are celebrating 51 years of continuous operation in 2023.
A special display case on the third floor of the Carnegie Historical Museum has been established to Highlight Business and Industry in Fairfield. This case will provide a location for a rotation to showcase these success stories that have made our community a thriving place to work and live.
Special thanks to the owner of the Nelson Company, Pete Nelson for setting up this fine display by himself.
