The Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield has announced that it will profile the farm owned by John A. Carlson as its Century Farm of the Month for March 2024.
As always, the museum is pairing its presentation of the Century Farm with Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk, which begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1. That is also when members of the Carlson family will be interviewed about the farm’s history, and this interview will be recorded and available on the museum’s Youtube page. The public is invited to attend the taping and meet the family.
A dedicated display case featuring the Carlson farm will be available for viewing on the third floor of the museum for the month of March.
This farm, located in Round Prairie Township, has been in the family for 122 years. The family first purchased 50 acres of farm land in 1902 at $28.00 per acre.
The Carlson Farm is a Century Farm. The Carlson family story begins when Great Grandparents C.F. and Mary Carlson purchased 50 acres on October 11, 1902. Next in line was Grandparents C.E. (Ed) and Dorothy Carlson, followed by Uncle Harold L. Carlson and current owner John A. Carlson.
This is the twenty-second-month that the Carnegie Historical Museum has been highlighting the farms in Jefferson County, which have been recognized by the Iowa Farm Bureau as being in the same family for 100 or 150 years plus. It is our plan to carry this forward throughout 2024, and recognize those farms which have received this Heritage or Century Farm status at the state level.
