The Carnegie Historical Museum announces that Jake Schmidt has been elevated to curator-manager for the museum.
Jake has worked at the museum for the past two years and has been the spark plug to raise the attendance from 150 attendees per year prior to COVID to over 4,000 attendees during the first nine-months of 2023. To assist him, former volunteer Charlotte Wright, who assisted with the research for and drafting of a grant application that brought national recognition to the museum, has transitioned to full-time.
The museum’s Interim Director, Lawrence Eyre, has had to step aside for medical reasons, and he had worked closely with Jake and Charlotte on these various projects.
The museum continues to be the hub of activity on South Court Street with the hosting of eight Fairfield High School Class Reunions during 2023, as well as plans for bus tours and visits from out-of-town gatherings in 2024.
The Underground Rail Road Project has been recognized at the national level and will be a draw for visitors in 2024. What is now called The Carnegie Historical Museum was the first endowed Andrew Carnegie Library to be established of the 1,689 Libraries established in the United States.
