To the editor:
It was a real pleasure to be present as a non-voting member as the Fairfield Education Foundation conducted their business Oct. 5 and awarded over $23,000 in grants to enrich education in Fairfield Community School District classrooms. All of the board members showed great concern for Fairfield students and their educational experience. The conversation was focused, and the board members had done their homework, studying the grant submissions. There was an excellent give and take and a real sense of the mission of the group.
I would like to give special thanks to Margaret Kelly, who heads the board; Beth Greiner-Ward, who is the treasurer; and Shannon Cochran, who is the student representative on the board. The board as a whole, though, needs to be commended for giving their time and supporting FCSD students in this important way.
There is no doubt in my mind that education will be enhanced and students will have new educational opportunity as a result of the Fairfield Education Foundation?s generous and thoughtful grants in the recently completed fall grant period. More grants will be awarded in the spring, and educators are encouraged to submit grants for items that will impact the learning in their classrooms. On behalf of all FCSD educators, I want to thank the Fairfield Education Foundation and the many local residents who have supported its mission!
