The Fairfield Art Association held its 58th Annual Membership Exhibit Celebration on Friday, March 8, with a large crowd present in the Main Gallery of the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center featuring the works of 43 artists.
Harriet Burbeck served as juror and selected four "Outstanding Art Pieces," an oil pastel "Kale" by Carol Gunn, a fiber piece "Athena Illuminated“ by Wendy Read, Mixed Media painting "What do you guys want to do?" by Katie Bell, and a black and white photo "Church" by Guy Harvey. A "Vote for Favorite" piece in the show went to Wendy Stegall for her oil pastel "Softly Centered."
New this year were "Purchase Awards" of artworks by the Fairfield Public Library Director Alecs Schmidt Mickunas, made possible by the Library Foundation. These four art pieces will begin their new collection, and include: "Great Blue Wonder" ink by Donna Sturm, "Snow Covered" pastel by John Evans, "Blue Heron" watercolor by John Preston, and "Perse Phone V" mixed media tile by Karla Christensen.
During the evening, the Mark Shafer memorial sculpture piece was presented by FHS Art Instructor David Kraemer, who has helped in designing it. The actual project should begin closer to summer.
This year marks the 15th year that an outdoor downtown art installation will be displayed around the Fairfield square and up Main Street. The theme "Lighten Up" was unveiled to artists and creative individuals. More details will be coming to those wanting to participate, and you can contact suzan1252@aol for more information and guidelines.
The FAA thanked Wyndy Rutledge for the past four years holding down the Sales Gallery & Studio as our "attendant extraordinaire" through the ABLE Network program. Another Wendy (Read) will begin through the same program, starting this week, Tuesday through Fridays from 1-5 p.m. Artists, FAA members and patrons are invited to stop in "Come Welcome" her, and drop off a couple new pieces for our Sales Gallery, and view the Membership Show that will end on March 28.
