The annual Blast Off Golf Tournament brought out 124 golfers to enjoy a fun day at the Walton Club and the Fairfield Golf and Country Club on Friday, June 9. The sun shined and made the perfect day for the 31 groups of four. The proceeds from the event assist the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce in carrying out its mission to connect our members, engage our community and prosper together. MidWestOne Bank was, again, the presenting sponsor for this event this year.
The weather was perfect for the Par-Tee the evening before the tournament. Over 100 people enjoyed a ribeye steak dinner grilled by the Jefferson County Cattlemen and sides from Sweet ‘N Saucy. 3 on the Tree played rockabilly music which made for a great event. Ted Diers auctioned off several silent auction items as well as the teams in the return of the Calcutta. The event was definitely a success and all those in attendance had a great time.
Par-Tee was made possible by our outstanding sponsors: TrafFix Devices, Fairfield Dental Clinic, and Roth and Norton Family Dentistry. These sponsors help support the food, beverage, music, and fun. We appreciate them!
In addition to golfing, the festive day included the opportunity to win prizes at several hole games as well as interact with a number of local businesses who set up along the course to add to the fun. The event was supported by numerous major sponsors as well as a multitude of patrons from Fairfield and southeast Iowa, who provided more outstanding hole prizes than in years past, as well as other gifts for the golfers at the event. Everyone left with a swag bag and cooler.
Winners in the Championship Flight on the men’s side were the team of Nathan Elseman, Jeremy Howard, Larry Padget, and Phil Ross from Iowa Tire Sales with a score of 47. Second place, with a score of 51, was the team of Brent Shimman, Matt Goodwin, Mike Link, and Chris Schipske from Cambridge Investment Research.
Once again, this year, Pilot Grove Savings Bank finished second to last with the foursome of Kasey Garringer, Cade Millikin, Bryce Millikin, and Ryan Swanson.
Other winners on the men’s side were:
Closest to the pin: Chris Boyd
Longest Putt: Mike Nelson
Longest Drive: Jason Hull
On the women’s side, the Championship Flight winners were the Iowa State Bank team of Lindy Johnson, Terri Kness, Carrie Lathrop, and Alissa Ward with a score of 66. Second place was the team of Jessica Anderson, Roxanne Bush, Dawn Ledger, and Melanie Shelman with Washington State Bank shooting a 68.
Other winners on the women’s side were:
Closest to the pin: Anne Gamrath
Longest Putt: Samantha Lange
Longest Drive: Terri Kness
Marshmallow Drive: Autumn Dreschler
In addition to golfing, the ladies had a dozen silent auction items donated by area Chamber members.
“This outstanding event just further demonstrates the wonderful support for the Chamber and the Fairfield community as a whole,” commented Mendy McAdams, Executive Director. “From before the sun was up, our staff, board members, Ambassadors, and friends volunteered their time to do everything that needed to be done. It was so heartwarming to see such support and dedication. We are so very thankful for each and every hand that helped, played, and enjoyed the two-day event.”
"The Chamber is truly grateful to all the golfers, sponsors, and volunteers for their friendship and support in this big event. Our generous members and volunteers are what makes events like this a success and fun for all. The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is fortunate to serve our community and we look forward to our upcoming events this summer and fall," commented Board President Michael Parker.
