22 students from Fairfield High School were inducted as new members of the National Honor Society in a ceremony held at FHS Auditorium on Monday, December 15th. Members were selected by the chapter’s faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
Seniors inducted: Kendra Allison, Brock Atwood, Dain Burkhart, Teague Hannes, Avalyn Light, and Bailey Tucker.
Juniors inducted: Katelyn Adam, Ella Bentler, Laney Bowers, Bella Buckley, Tara Carter, Mareyn Dunkin, Carissa Fligg, Faeven Gebremariam, Frances Miller, John Miller, Taylor Miller, Arissa Pohren, Natalie Steele, Luke Thornton, Marleigh Waugh, Sriya Yammanur.
To become members of NHS, students must be juniors or seniors with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average. Students then complete an application, listing their activities, leadership roles, volunteer service hours completed, and an essay on character. All teachers are invited to nominate students for membership. Finally, a small committee of teachers chooses the members to be inducted, based on their nominations and completed applications.
During the ceremony chapter adviser Jake Engle noted the average GPA for the chapter is 3.86 and as a group the students have served over 1,500 community service hours.
The new members join last year’s inductees: Bailey Belzer, Aja Dorothy, Alexis Eisenbraun, Tristen Garretson, Valerie Hernandez, Nicole Hunger, Phoenix Johnson, Kayla Karangi, Archer Kreuter, Iris Lane, Isabel McCready, Spencer McCready, Alexis Megrath, Poojita Mukadam, Andrew Myers, Emma Septer, Elyse Setterstrom, Christian Rasmussen, Caroline Van Pelt, and Pearl Winheim.
The National Honor Society was established in 1921. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding high school students in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character
