Fairfield principal Angela Jones nominated for Iowa Elementary Principal of Year

Angela Jones, principal of Fairfield Community School District’s Pence Elementary, was a nominee for the 2023-24 Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year award sponsored by the School Administrators of Iowa.

“SAI is pleased to celebrate the contributions and leadership of school principals dedicated to serving students and their communities,” said Lisa Remy, the association’s executive director.

Jones is finishing up her sixth year as the principal at Pence Elementary, where they are a Leader in Me School. This framework has allowed for students and staff to have a common language, along with putting the focus on student achievement and leadership. The school’s mission statement exemplifies what you will see at Pence: “Pence loves me for who I am, celebrates my growth and encourages me to be my best. At Pence, I matter.”

Pence staff shared in their nomination, “Angela Jones is an exceptional principal who deeply cares for every student and staff member in her building. She is the definition of a committed, caring, and loving principal who puts the needs of her staff and students above everything else. She leads with her loving heart, grace, and compassion. Angela truly cares about her staff’s personal well-being and mental health. She works to know her staff and students in and out of school. Her care and appreciation of staff shine through her support for us.”

Nominated for the award by her peers, Jones will be recognized by the association at its Annual Conference in August 2024, along with Sheldon’s East Elementary School Principal Jason Groendyke who was recently selected as the recipient.
