Fairfield reminds residents of snow ordinances
Dec. 8, 2021 1:32 pm
Fairfield City Hall wishes to remind the city’s residents about the ordinances governing snow and ice removal, and about parking restrictions.
Snow and ice
Snow and/or ice removal from sidewalks is required within 12 hours after the snow has fallen and/or ice has formed.
It is the property owners’ and/or occupants’ responsibility to remove the snow and place suitable material, such as ice melt or sand, on the sidewalk when necessary to prevent the sidewalk from being slippery. In the event the owner and/or occupant fails to remove the snow or ice, the City will remove it and assess the cost (minimum $160.00) to the property owner.
Parking restrictions
No vehicle may park on any City street for more than 24 consecutive hours.
SNOW EMERGENCY: When declared by the City, all vehicles parked in the Central Business District must be off the street in that District to permit snow clearing without parked vehicle interference. Excluding normal business hours, (9 A.M. to 8 P.M.) parking will not be permitted in that District for up to 48 hours (at least as long as it takes to clear the street curb to curb) after a declared snow event.
Violators will be towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.
