The Fairfield Community School District has selected Heather Buckley and Logan Doty as the two finalists for the next Washington Elementary principal.
Interviews will be conducted on Thursday, March 6. Candidates will meet with multiple stakeholder groups throughout the course of the afternoon.
Buckley currently serves as the elementary principal in the Cardinal Community School District, where she was named Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year in 2022. She began her career teaching second grade in Kansas City, Missouri, before returning to Fairfield in 2010.
Buckley earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa and a master’s in curriculum and instruction from the University of St. Mary. She continued her education through the Educational Leadership and Policy Program at the University of Iowa, where she obtained her evaluation and principal licensure.
Doty is currently an assistant principal for Fort Madison Elementary School. Before that, he was a dean of students in Fort Madison CSD. He also has experience as a junior high social studies instructor.
Originally from Missouri, Doty attended Culver-Stockton College to earn a bachelor’s degree in K-12 history education before heading to Northwest Missouri State University for his master’s degree in K-12 educational leadership.
“We are honored to have such strong finalists for our next Washington Elementary principal,” said Superintendent Zach Wigle. “This is an important position within our district, and we look forward to getting to know them both more. We appreciate their patience during the interview process.”
The new Washington Elementary principal will start on Aug. 1, 2025.
