Fairfield voters to consider PPEL on March 5

On Tuesday, March 5, our community will consider approving a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). The Fairfield Community School District relies on this PPEL to provide our students with a quality learning environment.
FCSD is one of the more than 83% of Iowa school districts that had a voted PPEL in place in the past fiscal year. This levy must be approved every 10 years and generates funds that can only be used for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements.
PPEL money has been used to address various needs in our schools through the years. The long list includes roof repairs and replacements, purchasing new school buses, improving school security, and maintaining HVAC systems, among other projects.
FCSD has many student achievements and success stories our community can be proud of.
These accomplishments are made possible thanks to investments in our school system, which we greatly appreciate. A voted PPEL is one of the tools used to protect and maintain the district’s assets for future generations.
The district’s current voted PPEL is scheduled to sunset in June 2026 with a rate of $0.67 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The district is asking residents to consider approving a rate of $1.34, allowing for continued investments that will help our approximately 1,500 students thrive.
Raising the levy rate to $1.34 would have a tax impact of approximately $43 per year on a residential property with an assessed value of $150,000 and $46 per year on a $150,000 commercial property. The annual amount for 320 acres of agricultural property would be $226.
You can learn more about the voted PPEL and how it supports FCSD by visiting www.fairfieldppel.org. Thank you to our residents for your consideration and engagement on the ballot measure.
