Fairfield’s Maya Lane participates in Central College’s Scholar Day
Nov. 30, 2023 12:25 pm
Future students of Central College in Pella had the chance to participate in Scholar Day in November.
Among the local students who participated were Maya Lane of Fairfield, Ava Elliott of Bonaparte and Lucas Fett of Keosauqua. They were among the 150 admitted students who came to campus to learn about the college and to earn additional academic scholarships, up to full tuition.
This year Central introduced a new group challenge - the moon landing past and future and the theoretical exploration of the dark side of the moon. Scholarship candidates prepared for the day by learning more about the Apollo project and hearing NASA astronaut, Raja Chari, discuss his experience as an astronaut.
During Scholar Day, participants were interviewed by faculty and invited to discuss how NASA team members embody engaged citizenship and how skills like critical thinking and working collaboratively made space missions possible. The group challenge is designed to showcase students' collaboration, creativity and communication skills.
Two additional Scholar Day opportunities will be held Saturdays, Jan. 27, and Feb. 3, 2024. Admitted students to Central may register for future Scholar Days at central.edu/scholar-day.
Central continues to position its tuition and financial aid support to provide the greatest value and be accessible for every income level of prospective students. Tuition, housing and food for the 2024-25 academic year will remain the same as the current year. In addition to Scholar Day awards, every Central admitted student receives a $1,000 Journey Scholarship, made possible by generous donors.
