Foreign Affairs Roundtable to meet Thursday in Fairfield
Apr. 25, 2022 1:50 pm
Join John Beghtol this Thursday, April 28, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Library to discuss an article from the Foreign Affairs Magazine.
Attendees will review the article titled, “Revenge of the Patriarchs: Why Autocrats (Vladimir Putin, Xi Jimping, and others). Fear Women’s Political Power.” The authors Eric Chenoweth and Zoe Marks are professors at Harvard University. They state, “…fully free politically active women are a threat to authoritarian leaning leaders... Xi has crushed feminist movements…”
“And in Afghanistan, the Taliban victory has erased 20 years of progress on women’s access to education and representation in public office and the work force…” “It turns out the frontline participation by women is a significant advantage… in terms of securing longer term democratic change.”
Please contact the library staff to sign up and pick up a copy of the article before the meeting. Call 641-472-6551 for information.
