Grace Lyon selected to attend Girls State

The Stockport American Legion Auxiliary has announced that Grace Lyon was selected to attend the 2024 Session of Hawkeye Girls State. This premier program will be held June 16-21 on the campus of Drake University, Des Moines.

Girls State is a “learning by doing” week long political process. Activities include campaigning for city, county and state offices. Citizens practice democracy in action while learning civic leadership. This program was started by four women in 1946 who had a dream. Girls State has become a tradition of excellence in teaching the various facets of the election process.

Grace will be a senior at Fairfield Community High School this fall. Her activities include Volleyball and Basketball. Grace volunteers at elementary sports camps and at the Noah’s Ark Animal Foundation in Fairfield. Her future plans after graduation are to major in Animal Science and continue on to Veterinary School.

Grace’s parents are Troy and Melinda Lyon of Keosauqua.
