Greater Jefferson County Foundation hosts scholarship picnic

Members of the Greater Jefferson County Board of Directors hosted the Annual Scholarship Appreciation Picnic at the newly redecorated Fairfield Community Center on Tuesday, May 24.
Students and their families were invited to attended the event, which was catered by the Jefferson County Pork Producers. Scholarship Chair Lori Stever emceed the event. Students were asked to speak briefly on their college/university/trade school choice and their career area of study. In addition, four former FHS graduates, Lauren Kraemer, Alex Forrest, Bailey Hird, and Emily McAvan offered “words of wisdom” to the graduating seniors regarding college freshman life in the dorm, attending classes, cafeteria food, and other essential advice.
Donors attending the event were Ben & Judy Bower (The Bower Passthrough Scholarship), Jim & Joan Salts (The Grace Roberts Memorial Nursing Scholarship), Pat Thoma Wheeler (The Jeanne Thoma Memorial Scholarship), Loretta Diers (The Andrew & Dorothy Pohren Crile Memorial Scholarship), and Dave & Sheri Neff (The Nellie Neff Memorial Scholarship)
The Greater Jefferson County Foundation began in 1975, with its first scholarship created in 1988 with a donation of $20,000. In 2022, over $120,000 in scholarships were awarded.
