Greater Jefferson County Foundation offers Mark Shafer Visual Arts Scholarship

The Greater Jefferson County Foundation is honored to administer the Mark Shafer Visual Arts Scholarship for the 2024 scholarship season. This will be a four-year renewable scholarship for an FHS graduating senior student in the amount of $1,000 per year who will be Majoring in Visual Arts, which includes painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, or Art Education.
The first Mark Shafer Visual Arts scholarship will be awarded by his widow, Susan Shafer, at the annual Award Night Presentation to be held at FHS this May 1, 2024 in Dan Breen Gymnasium.
Mark Shafer was a dedicated educator in the Fairfield Community School District since 1974 and taught for over 30 years. In addition to being the care-free, goofy Art teacher, he was a founding member of the Fairfield Art Association, where he served as Vice- President, Art Class Instructor, Art Camp and moderating exhibits with guest artists.
At FHS, he was involved in many Community Service Art Projects. Mark also received the much-deserved Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2006 and the FHS Wall of Honor in 2016.
