History Roundtable to meet Thursday in Fairfield
May. 16, 2022 3:01 pm
Please join John Beghtol at the Fairfield Public Library on Thursday, May 19 from 1:30 to 3 p.m, to share a history book you are reading or recently finished. Your book can be local, state, national, or international history.
John will be sharing his reading of, “Peter the Great and the Emergence of Russia” by B.H. Sumner, 1965. “…Peter’s father, Czar Alexis (1645-1676)… had won from Poland the Great Prize of Kiev, the Cradle of Russian Christianity and the early medieval capital, as well as that part of the fertile Ukraine…” (page 11)
“What is the destiny of Russia? Does she belong to the West?… to the East?... to nothing but herself?” (page 175) This question dominates Czar Peter the Great’s life and reign, (1682-1725).
Please contact Library staff at 641-472-6551 to reserve a spot. To allow time for sharing and discussing everyone’s book the group is limited in size.
