Iowa Straw Poll set for Aug. 13
To the editor:
I urge every Iowa voter to attend and vote in the Iowa Straw Poll Aug. 13 in Ames. This is a first in the nation event that will gain national attention for candidates running for president on the Republican side.

I urge every Iowa voter to attend and vote in the Iowa Straw Poll Aug. 13 in Ames. This is a first in the nation event that will gain national attention for candidates running for president on the Republican side.
All Republicans should definitely attend, of course. Others should attend as well.
Even though you might support another party usually, if you are an Iowa resident of voting age, you can attend and vote in this Republican event. I urge you to review the platforms of the different candidates and support whomever you think comes closest to your views. If more of us inject our votes into the mix we are more likely to get issues we care about brought out in the news and subsequent debates during the general election.
Many of the candidates and focus groups have specials to get you into the event and even bus rides from Fairfield so do your research. Some even provide food! You can also go to the www.iowagop.org website to purchase tickets and go to the event on your own.
Standing up for someone at the Iowa Straw Poll does not mean you have to vote for them in the general election. It just means that you want the best candidates put forward so we have support for good ideas in the general election. It also means you understand how lucky we are in Iowa to have such an important say on who gets nominated for running for president!
