JCHC hosting ‘Heart Health & Home Cooking’ event Feb. 1, Feb. 9
Jan. 11, 2023 3:21 pm
Free food samples and education on heart healthy eating, sponsored by JCHC Auxiliary.
FAIRFIELD – February is American Heart Month, and JCHC is opening its doors to celebrate! Members of the public are invited to attend the Heart Health and Home Cooking event on either February 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. or February 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Attendees will learn about a heart healthy eating pattern and how easy it may be to modify their favorite Iowa recipes to be heart friendly.
Even small changes in how you eat can make a big impact on your health. Simple substitutions can add extra fiber, lower sugar, lower sodium, and lower unhealthy fats to impact your cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar control.
You can still enjoy your traditional foods after adjusting your recipes for healthier outcomes.
In addition to the presentation, guests will be treated to free food samples of modified recipes that are lighter and healthier than traditional.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, but it can be prevented through simple lifestyle changes,” said Colette Banda, MA RD LD. “Maintaining a healthy diet is one way to change health behaviors and decrease your risk of heart disease. Managing weight, avoiding smoking, getting adequate sleep, and engaging in regular physical activity are all proven ways to reduce the chances of heart attack.”
This free event is sponsored by the JCHC Auxiliary, and pre-registration is required. Seating is limited. To register for this event, call Ryan Ford at 641-469-4275.
