Jefferson County Cattlemen hold annual banquet

Jefferson County Cattlemen held their annual banquet at the Elks Lodge on Jan 26, 2023. The evening began at 5:00 with a social hour and beef appetizers which were provided by The Hungry Camel and Sweet n’ Saucy. The evening then continued with the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer, and then a prime rib dinner, appropriate sides, and of course a chocolate dessert.

Board member and District 20 Director Dan Delaney updated the group with activity at the state level which who are continuing to address the issues of pricing transparency, animal identification and disease management, and labeling of our beef product at retail. Dan also shared the activities of a Youth Beef Team and their desire to launch a youth judging team.

Jefferson County Board members honor a local cattlemen each year with a “Lifetime Achievement Award.” This year we honored Rick Coffman. Rick has a Red Angus cow herd and has recently served on our board for Jefferson County. He has his own business offering semen sales and AI service. He has offered several classes for those who want to learn and improve AI technics. Rick is also a veteran from Dessert Storm. He knows no stranger and is a friend to everyone he meets.

We also honored Brandon Ledger who has served on the board for the past 5 years. He has resigned from the board due to moving his family to another location. We wish Brandon and his family much success.

The evening then concluded with an auction, many door prizes, and the drawing of the winning raffle tickets. Food, Fun, and Fellowship were enjoyed by all who attended. We thank all our sponsors for their help now and throughout the year.
