Join the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Jefferson County Office this summer as they host their annual summer day camps and workshops. Day camps and workshops are open to all youth; they do not have to be Clover Kids or 4-H members to participate.
Two workshops will be held for fourth to twelfth grade youth. A Thrifty Meal Challenge Workshop will be held on June 4 from 1-4 PM to encourage youth to explore the different grocery store sections and consider various money-saving strategies to plan a nutritious meal while sticking to a limited budget. A Sewing Workshop will be held on June 11 from 1-4 PM for an opportunity to learn the basics of sewing and complete one or more sewing projects.
In July, four day camps will be held. Kindergarten and first grade will attend on both days listed from 9 a.m. to noon, and second and third grade will attend on both days listed from 1-4 p.m. All About the Dough will take place on July 9-10. While learning about how dough is made and why it rises, youth will get to make delicious treats.
Youth can put their explorer cap on and adventure through all aspects of STEM, learning about technology, discovering chemical reactions, and more, at the STEM Explorers Day Camp on July 16-17. Youth will discuss digestion and other cool facts about animals at the Weird Things Animals Do Day Camp on July 23-24. And the final summer day camp will be Little Picasso on July 30-31. Youth can paint their way through several art techniques and create multiple projects as they learn about the history of art.
To register for these day camps, go to: https://go.iastate.edu/IVH0O9. Registration is open until June 1 and spots are limited. Financial assistance is available if needed. Grades listed are for the most recent grade that the youth completed. All programs will be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
