Jefferson County ISU Extension offers programs during county fair week

Jefferson County ISU Extension and Outreach has put together a list of fun activities to do during the Greater Jefferson County Fair this week at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Fairfield.

Join Master Gardeners on Thursday, June 22 at 6 p.m. as they celebrate their graduation from this spring's Master Gardener Training. This will be held at the garden towards the south end of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. We will award certificates to the graduates, have refreshments, and then offer tours of the garden. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Master Gardener Program as well.

On Friday, June 23 in the Cambridge Building, we will be offering a Raising School Ready Readers Preview. This open-house style event will feature hands-on activities that support literacy play and turn everyday experiences into learning activities to help children ages 3-6 be ready for school. Kids and their families stop in anytime from 4-6 PM to create a snack, play a game, make a craft, and learn more about the Raising School Ready Readers Program. This is also Kid's Day at the fair, and there will be many other activities available for youth.

Stop by the Cambridge Building on Saturday, June 24 from 3-4 PM for the Spend Smart. Eat Smart. Good Nutrition on a Budget Program. You will learn strategies to save money on food expenses and incorporate new ideas into menu planning and food shopping while exploring the Spend Smart. Eat Smart. website. Participants will receive free recipes, menu and shopping guides, and food samples.

And the next day, Sunday, June 25, stop by the Cambridge Building again from 2-2:30 p.m. for WOW (Words on Wellness) Live to learn more about how to take care of yourself by learning more about the current topics highlighted in this month's Words on Wellness newsletter. Topics include: grilling, outdoor meals, and Double Up on Food Bucks.
