Lowell influenced Fairfield?s musicians

As years fade into decades,
like a race we ran.
Memories drawn from the sands of time
Star Fairfield?s own Music Man.

Our man was honest, solid gold.

Fairfield?s ?Music Man? (written Dec. 15, 2005)
As years fade into decades,
like a race we ran.
Memories drawn from the sands of time
Star Fairfield?s own Music Man.
As opposed to Meredith Wilson?s ?con man?
Our man was honest, solid gold.
He infused music into Fairfield?s youth,
A priceless gift while they grow old.
He taught Bob to play the clarinet,
And Jerald the trombone.
Jim was a top snare drummer
And Dean learned the Sousaphone.
Yes, Dillon Lowell was Fairfield?s musical prize,
A ?gift that keeps on giving?.
He led scores of kids to music,
Adding pleasure and joy to their living.
Dillon was colorful in his expressions
Of that there is no doubt.
To squelch a thing he?d often say,
?Put it up an octave and leave it out.?
?All can?t breathe at the same time,
Aim spit valves at the wall?.
?Every third person breathe through your ears
Gossick, you don?t breathe at all.?
Jack of all trades,
Master of same.
No field was too lofty
Not to be a fun game.
NEUROLOGY?.
He mastered ?multi-tasking,?
As neurologist he would shout,
?Drummers are just musicians
with all their brains knocked out?.
SOCIOLOGY?.
As sociologist he would suggest,
?Don?t just hang around and sit.
If you?ve nothing to do, don?t do it here,
Pretend you?re a drum and beat it.?
MATHEMATICS?
In mathematics he was a master,
Who joked, ?Two rights don?t make a wrong.?
And ?two can live as cheap as one
But only half as long.?
HYGIENE?
He stressed ?instrument hygiene? and
At some he took a slap.
?Those mouthpieces have the aroma of
a German wrestler?s jock strap.?
RELIGION?
His religion instruction was
Without ?pie in the sky.?
As a reprimand his reminder was,
?But for the Grace of God there go I.?
PHILOSOPHER?
As a philosopher he was outspoken,
If our ?self-importance? became a trend.
He reminded us that ?The graveyard is full
Of indispensable men.?
COMMANDER?
As Commanding Officer of the 34th Division Band
He guided ten years of my bass drummer?s beats.
Ordering a louder ?first step bang?
For those ?with two left feet.?
COUNSELOR?
For those who failed to perform
To the perfection he asked from all men,
He would quietly observe,
?You?ve erped in your nest again.?
SOLDIER?
Dillon joined the Army in W.W. II
And Carl Rundquist took his place.
He married Margaret Herdliska, my seventh grade teacher
He was a winner in life?s race!
Many lives have been enhanced
Thanks to Dillon Lowell.
He influenced us in varied fields,
But music was his heart and soul.
