Maharishi School Destination Imagination is back.
The school invites the public to attend the DI Dessert, Showcase and Silent Auction on Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Maharishi School Assembly Hall for our DI Dessert, Showcase & Silent Auction. This event will be a fundraiser to support our Upper School team who will be competing at the Global Finals competition in Kansas City. Tickets can be purchased online, from a DI team member or at the door. To purchase online, go to: https://maharishi-school-store.myshopify.com/.
Our Maharishi School Destination Imagination teams competed on Saturday, April 2 in DeKalb, Illinois at our first in-person competition in three years hosted by Northern Illinois University. We took four teams - two elementary, one middle and one high school - and all four exceeded expectations especially given that only two out of the 16 students had ever participated in an in-person DI competition before! Our teams competed in the following areas: elementary Improvisation, elementary Fine Arts, middle Engineering and senior Engineering. Team members are Chunni Bregenzer, Mars McLain, Keya Thakkar, Yadu Hodak, Prithvi Kalra, Natalie Kahiu, Eliana Alsenosy, Zehra Erdem, Mason Cox, Tua O’Connor, Ayaan Desai, Queena SupremeBliss, Trent Hefner, Jania James, Jace Wallace and Miles Siemsen.
Some of the highlights of the competition included the Improv team, #Juice, made up of five 4th grade students (all brand new to DI) receiving one of the highest Instant Challenge scores of the entire tournament - that is including the high school teams!
The Fine Arts team, The Hand, made up of five 5th grade students impressed the appraisers with their creative use of materials in creating a garden of wishes out of balloons, wooden sticks, tape, and paper. The Middle School team, Promoment, made up of just two students, one in 6th and one in 7th, wowed the audience with their one-person performance/stand-up comedy bit and structure that held 375 lbs. without crushing. Finally, the Upper School team, Instantly Irreplaceable, which includes two experienced DI students and two who are brand new to DI, earned the highest overall score in their challenge at the senior level. They will go on to compete at Global Finals in Kansas City in May. Their structure held 880 lbs. without crushing and their performance impressed the appraisers with its humor, creativity, artistry and ingenuity.
All four teams will perform at the DI Showcase on May 14. The evening will also include dessert and a Silent Auction with items donated by local businesses. There will also be a chance for the audience to participate in a DI challenge and win prizes!!
Please join us for this community event on May 14 at Maharishi School. Doors will open at 7:30 pm with performances beginning at 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or from one of our Upper School DI students or at the door. This will be a seated event so tickets are limited.
