Manners prevail among opposing parties
To the editor:
Last night I witnessed a wonderful thing. Last night, in the super crowded Commons of the Fairfield High School 800+ Jefferson County Caucus Goers smiled, opened doors for one another, cracked jokes, visited, waved and were just plain neighborly.
This was quite remarkable since I, wearing my Ron Paul button, and my neighbor wearing her Santorum button and the lady seated next to me, buttonless, but ...

To the editor:
Last night I witnessed a wonderful thing. Last night, in the super crowded Commons of the Fairfield High School 800+ Jefferson County Caucus Goers smiled, opened doors for one another, cracked jokes, visited, waved and were just plain neighborly.
This was quite remarkable since I, wearing my Ron Paul button, and my neighbor wearing her Santorum button and the lady seated next to me, buttonless, but most-loudly clapping for the Romney speaker ? all of us were respectful, jovial and ? well ? simply decent to each other.
I am fond of saying that 90 percent of the world?s problems would be solved by good manners.
Twenty-five years ago I chose to make Fairfield, Iowa my home. Last night was one of those times when I marveled ? once again ? that we who live here can both strongly disagree and express that disagreement with a degree of good manners that makes me happy and proud to live here.
