In our 14 years of trail building, I had never met such generosity. The donated land, as many know, is worth close to one million dollars as developable, high-end residential land. Bob Nady, with the support of his wife and children, chose his roots, his family history, and this community over the dollar. A truly generous gift and an increasingly hard thing to find in this day and age.
Special thanks and commendation needs to be given to Lisa Hein of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, who worked tirelessly with the Nadys to craft a conservation easement, the first step in protecting and securing the land and to Jim Horras, ERA Real Estate, for his valued professionalism and appraisal work on the land over this last decade. Thanks also to the Jefferson County Conservation Board, who willingly became the holder of the conservation easement, and to Larry Diers who has managed and farmed the Nady land, worked with trails council on the easement and on construction of that section of the loop trail.
