FAIRFIELD – Oakwood Nursery and Garden Center in Fairfield has been providing expert advice, services and products related to landscaping and gardening for nearly half a century.
The business, located at 1000 Oakwood Blvd., is owned by Terri Diers and Terry Klein. Their services include mulching, landscape design and installation, and the pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, among other things.
Oakwood Nursery offers a full garden center that has decorative pots, birdbaths, soil and soil amendments. While you’re there, check out their benches and trellises, too. The garden center accommodates projects both big and small, and offers bulk purchasing of black soil and hardwood mulch, sold by the cubic yard.
Diers and Klein opened the business in 1978.
“Will we make it to 50 years?” Diers asked. “We are going to try.”
Diers added that the business might need to adjust its retail hours in light of the fact that the owners have been putting in long days for several decades.
“We have worked weekends and holidays for 47 years,” she said. “We need time for some fun and family time.”
Customers are encouraged to follow the business on its Facebook page. The business posts photos and videos of flowers for sale, gardening tips, advice on pest control, and updates to its hours of operation.
Oakwood Nursery can be reached via phone at 641-472-6775, and via email at oakwoodnursery@iowatelecom.net. Its spring hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
