This Fall, over the weekend of October 6-8, 2023, a group of Parsons College alumni, students, friends and diehards, will converge on Fairfield one last time for a “PARSONS GOLDEN JUBILEE REUNION.”
Check-in will begin Friday morning, October 6, 2023 at noon, and again Saturday at 9 a.m. If you wish to attend, you MUST be pre-registered and the FORM must be returned with payment by Aug. 1.
To obtain a registration FORM and to learn more about reunion details, please submit your request to Nancy Wirtanen at: nwirtanen@yahoo.com.
Sixty years ago (1963), Fairfield, Iowa was arguably the “Boom Town” of college towns and cities across the country.
The explosion of Parsons College, a small 90-year-old school at the time, was in the midst of growing its student enrollment from a mere 250 to what would become nearly 6,000 in a very short period of time.
This miraculous event, and break from the norm, had educators from near and far flocking to Fairfield to see what was happening, and how it was happening.
Amazingly, 10 years later (1973), due to some unfortunate publicity and financial shortfalls, the “Parsons Plan” crumbled and the college shuttered its doors forever.
This Parsons reunion gathering will commemorate the 50th year anniversary of its closing.
If you were an alumni, student, staff, professor or friend of Parsons College, you are invited to attend.
All of the activities, which will include the premier showing of a Parsons College Documentary, produced by local resident, Dick DeAngelis, will be shown at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.
The youngest Parsons alums will reach 70 years of age this year.
