Seven ag extension candidates vie for five seats

Voters will have the opportunity to elect five members of the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Jefferson County Extension Council from a slate of seven candidates during the Nov. 6 general election.
The seven candidates on this year's ballot are: Ron Bower, Susie Drish, Christine Engwall, Jay Giltner, Cory Klehm, John Peck and Shelly Moothart.
'The council members elected this year will be involved in bringing educational opportunities to the county and providing governance for the local extension office for the next four years ,” said Sue Henderson, regional director for ISU Extension and Outreach.
ISU Extension and Outreach Jefferson County educational programming is a cooperative effort involving local citizens, Iowa State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Extension council members are elected at large, and all voters in the county are eligible to vote for five candidates.
Carryover council members whose terms continue beyond the end of 2018 are: Stephen Burgmier, Jeffrey Dunbar, Barbara Kistler and Eric Miller. The five candidates who win election will take office in January. Extension council members make policy, programming and budget decisions for ISU Extension and Outreach in Jefferson County.
ISU Extension and Outreach brings research-based programs in human sciences, agriculture and natural resources, 4-H youth development, and community and economic development from Iowa State University to local communities.
