Teens should engage in current events

If you?ve been paying attention to the news then most of you are already aware of the Occupy Wall Street protests. This weekend I went out of town with my family to Dubuque and I was amazed by how many people were protesting. But another thing I found interesting was there weren?t many high-schoolers there. And this was only the second time I?d heard about it as well. So it got me thinking about how unaware many teens are about these protests and it really concerns me about where many people will be in a few years.
With people not getting good jobs how does anyone expect to be able to pay for college? This is our future and I think that out of the percent of people doing something about it high-schoolers and young adults should be pretty high up there but so far are not. I also feel that the schools should be helping raise that awareness. For example, just last week the high school had someone come in to talk about tobacco awareness. But why not awareness about the Wall Street protests? It used to be that you could walk around anywhere and find ?Help Wanted? signs. But now I?m in high school and I?m struggling to find work. I strongly suggest that high-schoolers and even middle-schoolers start to become more engaged and aware of this because it?s our future too.
