Vic Rail Scholarship Foundation announces receipients

The Board of Directors of the Vic Rail Scholarship Foundation have announced the winners of the Vic Rail Scholarship Awards for 2024. They were presented at the awards assembly May 1 at the Fairfield High School by Doug Bagby.
Rail was a mathematics teacher at Fairfield High School. Rails influence on his students was the prime reason for starting the scholarship foundation in his name in 1985. The presenter, Doug Bagby, is a graduate of Fairfield High School and a director of the foundation. He explained Rail’s effect on his students .
The award is given annually to Graduating Seniors who will or are studying in a Mathematics related field at the college of their choice.
Allan David Creer is an award winner. Allan is the son of Debbie and Allan Creer of Fairfield. Allan plans to attend The University of Iowa pursuing a career Bio Medical Engineering.
Ethan Johnny Hsia received an award. He is the son of Sun Chanthalavanh and Kang Hsia of Fairfield. Ethan plans to attend The University of Iowa to pursue Video Game Development and Music Composition.
Aidan Kreuter is an award winner. Aidan is the son of Michelle Boeding-Kreuter and David Kreuter of Fairfield. Aidan plans to attend Mt. Mercy pursuing a career Business Finance.
Shreya Mallick is an award winner. Shreya is the son of Ramita Kam and Dilip K. Mallick of Fairfield. Shreya plans to attend The University of Iowa pursuing a career in Computer Science.
The total amount awarded to these students is $6,000 this year.
This is the 38th year that these awards have been given at Fairfield High School, starting the year after Mr. Rail retired from teaching in 1985. A total of $114,250 has been awarded. The funds awarded come from the interest on investments. There are 35 active donors to the Foundation.
A committee has been formed to locate and get past winners of the scholarship foundation involved, and anyone interested should contact The Vic Rail Foundation. Board member Pete Nelson can be reached at pnel@iowatelecom.net.
