13-year-old dies in rollover accident
GUERNSEY — A 13-year-old died and an 11-year-old was injured in an off-road vehicle accident May 24 south of Guernsey.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 11-year-old Sam Schaeffer was driving a 2016 Polaris Ranger Crew southeast on 230th St. onto 450th Avenue southeast of Guernsey when the vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side and into the north ditch while navigating a curve.
Nolan Bayer, 13, was pronounced dead. Schaeffer was flown by AirCare to the University of Iowa Hospital.
The accident was still under investigation as of Tuesday.
