‘175 Years of Brooklyn’ comes to Brooklyn Opera House

BROOKLYN — This month is Brooklyn's 175th anniversary, and local playwright Josh Gerard was inspired to write a comedic play about Brooklyn's history over these many years.

A large cast made up of local community theater actors and actresses will tell the story of the early founders, how Brooklyn got its name and how it almost burned down multiple times.

"It's our history that I told with love and a heavy helping of humor,” said Gerard. “All of it is true, except for the stuff I made up. And I made up a lot. Hopefully I don't get run out of town."

This one act historical comedy, fittingly titled “175 Years of Brooklyn,” will run during Brooklyn's yearly flag festival.
