Fast times and school records were a common theme this week for several area teams in track and field action.
Three school records were broken Saturday at the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival at Iowa City West.
Iowa Valley’s boys 4x200-meter relay team posted a time of 1:30.66, which ranked number one in Class 1A after Saturday.
Fast times don’t stop there for the Tigers’ boys. Their 4x100 team ranks first in 1A, and the 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams are in the top five.
Caleb Haack leads in the 200-meter, dropping a 22.33 this week, and is in the top five in the 100 after running a 11.10 Saturday.
On the girls’ side, Lydia Kriegel broke her own school record in the shot put again, setting a record Saturday after throwing a personal best Friday.
English Valleys’ Gage Heyne set a school record in the boys’ 800 Saturday, running a scorching 1:55.24. The time moves him up in the rankings and increases his chances of qualifying for the Drake Relays.
The English Valleys boys also ran a 3:39.04 distance medley this week, ranking them second in 1A.
Belle Plaine also ranks in the top five in 1A in several individual events and relays.
The South Iowa Cedar League may be unmatched this season when it comes to small school firepower.
Williamsburg’s Grant Hocker, in not ideal conditions, ran a 49.73 in the boys’ 400 Thursday, which now ranks in the top five in the state.
Here is a look at few other area meets this week involving BGM and Montezuma:
