4 area champions crowned at Corky Stuart Invitational
Timm wins marquee matchup at Tripoli

BROOKLYN — Four area champions were crowned Saturday at the Corky Stuart Invitational.
Iowa Valley’s trio of Chance Hoyt (150), Mason Hoyt (175) and Nolan Kriegel (190) plus HLV-TC’s Cael Weisskopf (157) all ended as champions.
Three of those came against ranked foes in the final.
Chance Hoyt picked up his second ranked win of the week, defeating Class 2A No. 12 Gage Miller of AP-GC by a 9-7 decision.
Weisskopf defeated Wapello’s Cohen Wolford, ranked fourth in 1A at 165 by a 13-11 decision.
Lastly, Kriegel defeated 1A No. 9 Kason Dopler by a 4-0 decision.
Iowa Valley finished second as a team with 166.5 points, BGM was eighth with 83 and HLV-TC ninth with 80.
Here is a look at other area boys wrestling from the week.
Baxter Meet
BAXTER — After HLV-TC’s home meet was canceled, the Warriors joined Belle Plaine and English Valleys in a meet at Baxter Thursday.
Belle Plaine went 2-1 on the night in duals.
Ryker Beal and Derek Kressley each went 3-0 on the night for the Plainsmen in live matches.
English Valleys went 3-2 in duals.
Kaleb Bolinger had a strong showing at 215 pounds for the Bears, going 3-0 in live matches and 5-0 overall.
HLV-TC went 0-4 in duals and finished 6-5 in live matches.
Allan Scott had three live match wins and Tristan Pirkl had two for the Warriors.
Iowa Valley quad
MARENGO — Iowa Valley went 1-2 in its home quad Thursday.
The highlight match of the night was the 1A 16th ranked Tigers versus No. 20 North Mahaska.
The Warhawks won eight of 14 matches, including two forfeits, to win the dual 43-30 over the Tigers.
The match of the dual was the showdown at 150 between 1A No. 2 Aydan Groom and No. 4 Chance Hoyt.
Hoyt picked up a statement 11-4 win by decision.
Iowa Valley dropped its dual against Mount Pleasant 40-39, and defeated Sigourney-Keota 54-24.
Montezuma quad
MONTEZUMA — Montezuma went 3-0 in duals Thursday, picking up wins over BGM (45-24), Colfax-Mingo (48-27) and Pleasantville (48-30).
Owen Desrochers picked up two live match wins for the Braves.
BGM went 1-2 in duals.
Sully Thompson finished 3-0 in live matches, all wins by fall.
Williamsburg triangular
WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg went 2-0 in a WaMaC triangular Thursday, picking up a key win over 2A No. 23 Solon.
After rattling off four straight match wins, the Spartans led 26-22 with four matches to spare.
The Raiders then rolled off wins from Brady Grier at 175, Elias Schanz (190) and Wes Stoner (215) to seal the dual.
Schanz’s and Stoner’s wins both came by fall, providing key bonus points in the 37-29 victory.
In the Raiders first dual, the team won 12 of 14 matches in the 69-12 win over Vinton-Shellsburg.
Bobcat Jerry Eckenrod Invitational
VAN HORNE — In a field with 59 total ranked wrestlers across all classes, Williamsburg finished seventh as a team Saturday with 121.5 points.
The Raiders’ top finisher was Carson Grier at heavyweight.
Grier advanced to the final with two first-period pins and finished runner-up due to injury in the second period of the championship match.
Riker DeWitt finished third at 113.
North Mahaska Invitational
NEW SHARON — Montezuma’s Braxton Plants continued his strong season with a win over 3A No. 4 Parker Jordan Saturday in the 215 final.
Plants controlled the entire match, winning by an 8-1 decision.
Montezuma finished eighth with 49 team points.
Gary Curtis Invite
RIVERSIDE — English Valleys took three wrestlers to Highland Saturday and finished with seven team points.
Teagen Mast (175) and Will McPherson (190) each went 1-2.
Tripoli Invitational
TRIPOLI — Belle Plaine’s Aidan Timm made the most of his first action back after a few meets off Saturday.
Timm, ranked second in 1A at 144, advanced to the final to face 1A third-ranked Gavin Wiig of Woodbury Central.
The score was 4-3 heading into the final period, and that’s when Timm made his move.
Two takedowns and two nearfalls at four points each gave Timm the dominating 18-5 major decision.
Wade Sankot was runner-up at 150.
The Plainsmen finished sixth with 111 team points.
