Iowa County Trailblazers 4-H Club held its fifth annual Feed the Farmer community service project Oct. 19.
Each year the group prepares hot meals for area farmers during harvest and delivers the meals to them, oven right in the field so the farmers can continue working.
The food prep starts early in the morning, and the group meets to prepare the food containers and bags of silverware and cookies. Several members head out on driving routes to deliver and to visit with the farmers.
This year more than 230 farmers were fed.
The group looks forward to this day each year and with a great group of kids, parents and helpers, Feed the Farmer went smoothly.
Leaders said the value of the great conversations and exchanges between the kids and the farmers is priceless.
The Iowa County Trailblazers club has grown to more than 40 members and is led by Sara Mohr and Sarah Smith.
Members are from Williamsburg, Marengo, Belle Plaine, HLV and home schools and range from kindergartners to seniors in high school.
