The 2025 football season gets underway this Friday with two area teams playing ‘Week 0’ games in 8-player.
Here is a look at two key returners for each area team.
- Aidan Timm, sr., Belle Plaine — Will step into starting QB role this season. Did throw 30 passes last season. Rushed for 123 yards and also had 178 receiving yards. Defensively had 47 1/2 tackles as a part of a physical Plainsmen defense.
- Will and Wade Sankot, sr., Belle Plaine — Hard to separate the two twins in terms of their impact. Wade rushed for 453 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, while Will was the center. Defensively, Wade had a team-high 68 1/2 tackles (nine for loss), and Will added 43 1/2 more (8 1/2 for loss) last season.
- Beau Burns, sr., BGM — Second team all-state selection in 8P last season. One of the most dynamic players in 8P, which will help with transition back up to 11-player. Totaled 59 touchdowns (34 through the air) and his 2,391 passing years led 8P. Also rushed for 1,474 yards.
- Landon Hassett, sr., BGM — Team’s second leading rusher last season with 211 yards and is team’s top returning receiver, in terms of yards, after three seniors graduated. Totaled 22 tackles defensively, five for loss.
- Drew Fisher, sr., English Valleys — Team’s starting QB last season and leading rusher with 646 yards. Added 20 1/2 tackles defensively.
- Braydon Anderson, soph., English Valleys — In 30 carries last season averaged 8.7 yards per carry and may be in for a bigger load this season. Added 19 tackles defensively and 389 kick return yards.
- Nolan Kriegel, jr., Iowa Valley — Second team all-state selection in 8P last season. Totaled 60 touchdowns, highlighted by 40 on the ground. Rushed for 1,991 yards averaging 8.5 yards a carry and threw for another 1,119 yards. Had 8 1/2 tackles for loss defensively.
- Chance Hoyt, jr., Iowa Valley— Will play a bigger role this season offensively. Rushed for 351 yards on 29 carries last season and also led the team in tackles defensively with 51 1/2.
- Brady Boulton, sr., Montezuma — Rushed for 1,104 yards last season to go along with 17 scores. Threw for another 1,367 yards with 18 touchdowns.
- Braxton Plants, sr., Montezuma— Team’s lone returning starting lineman from last season on both sides. Will be key this season to set the tone at the line of scrimmage. Totaled 28 tackles last season with a team-high 11 for loss.
- Grady Wetjen, sr., Williamsburg— Top-returning offensive producer from last season. Ran for 314 yards and six touchdowns and caught 9 passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Totaled 16 1/2 tackles defensively.
- Dylan Weisskopf, sr., Williamsburg — Totaled 30 1/2 tackles last season, 8 1/2 for loss. Also is team’s punter and should get more touches offensively this season.
