MORAVIA — Achieva Enterprises and Honey Creek Resort emphasized their commitment to revitalizing the resort in a statement Monday following closing arguments in their lawsuit against the State of Iowa.
"Achieva remains dedicated to transparency, fairness, and the ongoing success of Honey Creek Resort for guests, employees, and the State of Iowa,“ said Beth Henderson, chief executive officer of Honey Creek Resort, according to a press release.
“We've devoted ourselves to revitalizing a property that deserves to be a cherished destination in Southern Iowa."
Honey Creek Resort came under Achieva's management with significant and well-documented operational and financial hurdles inherited from previous years. From the outset, Achieva Enterprises invested resources and innovative strategies to restore the resort's reputation, facilities and guest experience, the press release says.
These efforts included upgrading amenities, launching new community programs and broadening outreach to attract visitors and support local employment.
Achieva denies claims that they terminated their contract, noting that the company met its contractual obligations and responded swiftly to challenges and evolving needs at the resort.
The sudden contract termination by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, undermined Achieva's ability to complete planned improvements and maintain stability for staff and guests, the press release says.
"The DAS chose speed and spectacle on Oct. 29, 2025," said Henderson. "They committed extreme and punitive actions in immediately shutting down the resort, barricading its entrances, evicting guests and sending home over 50 employees. The DAS actively destroyed livelihoods and damaged the reputation of both Acheiva Enterprises and the Resort without prior notice of their intentions.
"The abrupt and unmerited actions by the DAS left us no choice but to sue the State after having caused so much uncertainty for Honey Creek Resort's dedicated employees, loyal guests, and local vendors." Henderson said in the press release.
"We sincerely thank our employees, guests, and partners for their ongoing support and reaffirm Achieva Enterprises' unwavering dedication to excellence in operating Honey Creek Resort."
