Area basketball teams return key players
Montezuma’s Cook one of top returning players in SICL

The High School girls basketball season is underway. Official practices began this week.
Several area teams lost their top players from last season and will have to have others step up this season.
Here is a look at two key returners for six area teams.
BELLE PLAINE
Lacie Rethman, sr.— Led the Plainsmen in scoring last season with 4.4 points per game. Also a key rebounder, grabbing 110 boards last season.
Jadie Dahlquist, soph.— Fourth on team in total scoring last season with 44 points. Was also top three in rebounds, assists and steals.
ENGLISH VALLEYS
Ava Gehrking, jr.— Second team SICL selection last season. Led the team in scoring (11.3 points per game), total rebounds (165) and blocks (60). Brings a dynamic threat from the post position.
Addison Achenbach, jr.— Knocked down a team-high 23 threes last season. Averaged 7 points per contest last season to go along with 35 steals and 31 assists.
HLV-TC
Emery Hall, jr. .— Second team SICL selection last season. Team’s top returning scorer (8.2 points per game) and started all 22 games. Led team in threes made (37) and was second in steals (43) and assists (33) last season.
Erilea Kupka, soph.— Appeared in 19 games last season. Totaled 50 points, 13 made threes and 30 rebounds.
IOWA VALLEY
Myla Frimml, sr..— Second on the team in scoring last season with 7.3 points per game. Added 140 rebounds and 29 assists and will be the Tigers main post presence this season.
Maeci Marshall, jr..— Started 8 games last season. Totaled 36 points, 30 steals and 39 assists. Will be a key guard for the Tigers this season.
MONTEZUMA
Vivian Cook, jr.— Second team SICL selection last season. Averaged 12.5 points per game and a team-high 81 threes. Was second on the team in assists (66) and steals (61) in the Bravettes’ run to another state tournament appearance.
Claire Erselius, sr.— Shot the highest percentage from the 3-point line last season at 34.2%, knocking down 54. Averaged 9.7 points per contest and will be a bigger contributor this season.
WILLIAMSBURG
Zoe Allen, sr.— Unanimous first team WaMaC West selection last season. Was the Raiders’ key threat in the post, averaging 10.9 points per game and 4.6 rebounds. Shot an efficient 52.6% from the field.
Ava Hocker, jr.— Unanimous first team WaMaC West selection last season. Did it all for the Raiders last season. Was top four in points, rebounds, assists and steals for the team. Typically the primary defender on a team’s best player around the perimeter.
