Bank Haus wins Best Use of Theme

AMANA — Bank Haus won the Best Use of Theme award Saturday for its use of a Star Wars ship on its Maifest parade float.

The parade theme was May the Fest Be With You, a reference to the Star Wars line “May the force be with you.”

The Most Humorous award went to KAABA Shriners for their Hillbilly limo.

Amana Woolen Mill-Warped and Woven Mill Mercantile won the Judge’s Choice Award for their Wookies and Obi-Wan Kenobi on a float that declared ‘May the Fleece be With You.“

The Amana Maifest parade took place May 4. Despite an earlier downpour, the clouds parted, and the sun shone on the annual event.

Grand Marshals for the parade were the Clear Creek-Amana 4A girls State Championship basketball team.

Twenty entries were judged in three categories by a panel of judges: Ricky Bartlett of KMRY; Diana Nollen from The Gazette; Ben Macumber from Clear Creek- Amana School District; and Susan Macumber of the Amana Arts Guild.

The parade committee consisted of Deb Kennedy and Paulette Dietrich. Dennis Hahn and the Amana Fire Department helped lineup the parade in the rain.
