NORTH ENGLISH — English Valleys softball season concluded against Wapello Wednesday in what most would call an upset.
Wapello defeated the Bears 4-1.
Mila Jordan was responsible for all three RBIs for Wapello, and Ada Boysen pitched all seven innings, racking up 13 strikeouts.
Kennedy Axmear had the lone RBI for the Bears and pitched the whole game, striking out nine.
The Bears senior class leaves behind a strong legacy due to their impact on and off the field.
“This group of young women have left a legacy of hard work and dedication to softball. They have had a winning season every year since eighth grade, and prior to them, there were only two other back-to-back winning seasons in EV softball history,” English Valleys head coach Steve Hester said.
The senior class has contributed to top-three conference finishes in the last three seasons.
“They have been family to Coach Al Mews (assistant coach) and I,” Hester added.
Here is what Coach Hester had to say about each of his seniors:
Kennedy Axmear: “Kennedy’s efforts on the diamond show in stats, but the work she does behind the scenes is unmatched. It is fitting she ends her athletic career in softball as one of the best players in the state.
Delaney Hall: “Delaney has always been a leader on and off the field with a positive attitude and relentless effort.”
Ada Mews: “Ada has improved more than any other season and she came up big this year in the lineup hitting. She had multiple big hits put games away for us.”
Imigyn Stratton: “Imigyn has been a solid outfielder for years and helped the younger outfielders grow and always took time out for them.”
Hannah Grimm: “Hannah worked her way into the lineup as a designated hitter with determination, grit and a positive attitude.”
Keegan Burdick: “Keegan always enjoyed the game and loved her teammates. She never stopped learning and was always a positive force.
“I can’t thank this group for what they have done for the program and I look forward to watching them grow in the next phase in life,” Hester added.
