Bears sweep team titles at Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE — Four area cross-country teams competed at the Belle Plaine Invitational Tuesday at Franklin Park.
There was a slew of area top 10 finishers in the small field.
The English Valleys’ boys took home the team title with 38 points. Isaac Fraizer was runner-up, Will Luers third and Evan Koehn sixth.
HLV-TC’s Allan Scott broke the 19-minute barrier again, coming in fifth.
Iowa Valley’s Ayden Hollister rounded out the area top 10 finishers in ninth in a time of 20:16.57.
The English Valleys’ girls had another nearly perfect score en route to their team title. The Bears put their top six runners in the top 10.
Belle Plaine’s Cora Hemmingsen-Brinkman finished 12th.
Solon Invitational
SOLON — In a field with five-ranked teams in Class 2A and 3A, the 3A No. 15 Williamsburg girls cross-country team finished third with 89 points at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area Monday.
Class 3A No. 3 Mount Vernon-Lisbon and No. 5 Solon finished above the Raiders, while 2A No. 18 Tipton and 3A No. 17 Cedar Rapids Xavier were fourth and fifth.
Ashlyn Hoffman was the lone varsity runner to run a season best in a time of 22:46.
The boys finished fourth of 14 teams and were led by a 14th-place finish from Marcus Pirkl.
PCM Invite
MONROE — The BGM girls finished sixth and the boys eighth at Gateway Recreation Monday.
Penny Clayton led the girls with a 28th place finish and Aston Brown led the boys with a 18th place finish.
EBF Meet
EDDYVILLE — Montezuma finished runner-up in both races at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School Tuesday.
The girls had a team score of 41 points with Vivian Cook and Alexa Rose each finishing in the top 10.
The boys had 59 points and also had two top 10 finishes in Dayton Reif and Cade Lowry.
