Two breakout freshmen from last season highlight area returners this cross country season.

Williamsburg’s Channing Becker and English Valleys’ Anna Luers both hope to lead their teams to the state meet as the season gets underway soon.

Here is a look at some top returners in the Hometown Current area.

BOYS

  • Nile Busch, sr, Williamsburg — Ran a personal best of 16:48.8 last season at state qualifying and missed going to state by one place.
  • Colin Reed, jr., Williamsburg — Also broke 17 at state qualifying in a time of 16:56.2. Was the Raiders top finisher at the WaMaC meet, earning all-conference honors in 16th.
  • Hayes Arwine, sr., Williamsburg— Ran a personal best of 17:26.7 at state qualifying.
  • Finn Brummel, sr., Williamsburg— Ran a personal best of 17:37.8 at state qualifying.
  • Isaac Frazier, soph., English Valleys — Came on strong in end of freshman season. Finished 8th at SICL meet in 17:50.60 and qualified for state individually finishing 10th at state qualifying.
  • Charlie Koons, jr., Williamsburg — Broke the 18-minute barrier at state qualifying in 17:59.7
  • Evan Koehn, soph., English Valleys— SICL second-team honors as a freshman coming in ninth place.

GIRLS

  • Channing Becker, soph., Williamsburg — Individual state qualifier in Class 3A as a freshman. Fifth-place finish at WaMaC championships. Ran personal best of 19:13.1 at state qualifying.
  • Anna Luers, soph., English Valleys— Top-runner on the Bears state qualifying team. SICL meet runner-up and 1A Regina state qualifying meet champion.
  • Edie Axmear, jr., Williamsburg — Individual 3A state qualifier last season running a personal best of 19:52.3.
  • Addison Achenbach, jr., English Valleys— First team all-SICL finish last season in sixth place with time of 20:55.8. Fourth place finish at state qualifying meet.
  • Ashlyn Hoffman, sr., Williamsburg— Ran a personal best of 20:39.9 at state qualifying meet last season.
  • Kailor Lown, jr., English Valleys— Team’s third finisher at state meet last season in 21:28.5.
  • Makenna Capper, jr., Williamsburg— Ran personal best of 21:05.8 at state qualifying meet last season.
