This year marks the 40th Anniversary for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, according to a press release.
Relay For Life was started by one man, Dr. Gordy Klatt, in 1985, the press release says. Klatt ran around a Tacoma, Washington track for 24 hours, raising $27,000.
At Relay For Life no donation is too small; each and every dollar counts, said Benton County Relay for Life in the press release.
Donations help fund cancer research and patient care programs and can make a difference in communities. Every donation helps the American Cancer Society save lives.
In attention to attending the event, people can purchase luminaria to represent a life affected by cancer. Purchase them ahead of time by contacting Ev Wiebke at 319-228-8974. They may also be purchased at the event.
This is the time of year that people come together and cheer on the cancer survivors in their communities, said Benton County Relay for Life. It is time to thank the caregivers who support loved ones. It is the time to remember and honor those lost to cancer.
