Benton supervisors approve EMS claims

VINTON — The Benton County Board of Supervisors approved Emergency Medical Services Trust Fund claims during its regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 2.
The board also approved Resolution No. 25-99 Local Sales and Service Tax funds gift for the Van Horne Fire Department. This is for 10 new uniforms for the fire department totaling $35,828.27. The county will pay 10% of the cost.
Courtney Long of Veterans Affairs and General Assistance met with the board regarding the 2027 budget. The only change in veterans affairs budget request is a raise of 3% for cost of living and salary-related benefits.
All other expenses remain the same, Long said. Long’s salary is split, 75% for veterans affairs and 25% for general assistance.
A land use change was approved for Matt and Michelle Friedman for land in Parcel A, Section 17, in Iowa Township for a single family residence north of Belle Plaine.
Sarah Berndt, District 6 Leader Iowa, gave a Behavioral Health Services overview.
Kristine Bullock, Kirkwood Workplace Learning Connection, presented their the fiscal year 27 budget request. The colleges helps schools and businesses with job shadowing and internships.
The county’s contribution is based on the 2020 census. The contribution request for the next fiscal year is $2,0575.50.
Assistant County Attorney Derek Marsh met in closed session per Iowa Code 21.5(1) c to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.
