Burns puts up historic numbers in win for BGM

KEOKUK — The Williamsburg football era under head coach Austin Blythe is off to a 1-0 start.
The Raiders took care of Keokuk on the road Friday, shutting out the Chiefs in a 44-0 win.
A new-look offense saw balanced contributions across the board.
Sophomore quarterback Cash Brown threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
Leading the way in offensive production was Dallin Sullivan, who rushed for 100 yards and a score and caught one pass for another score from 49-yards out. Sawyer Kirby also rushed for two scores.
The Raiders’ defense totaled 11 1/2 tackles for loss.
Up next for the Raiders is their home opener against Solon

English Valleys 56, North Tama 26
TRAER — One game in, and English Valleys has equaled their win total from last season already.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bears offense got rolling.
Leading 30-12 after three quarters, the Bears piled on 26 more points in the fourth.
Braydon Anderson had a big night on the ground, rushing for 205 yards on 23 carries. Drew Fisher added 119 yards and threw for 122 yards on top of that.
Everett Bender had two receiving touchdowns, totaling 79 yards.
English Valleys will face rival HLV-TC in week two at Tri-County High School.
HLV-TC 62, Meskwaki 6
MESKWAKI — Pure domination from start to finish, HLV-TC tied its win total from last season in its season-opening win.
Keegan Gorsh threw just seven passes, but they resulted in 157 yards and three touchdowns, all three to receiver Sean McCulloch who had 157 yards on four catches.
On the ground, Cael Weisskopf rushed for 109 yards on just four carries with three touchdowns.
Colo-Nesco 36, Belle Plaine 28
BELLE PLAINE — In a game that was tightly-contested until the end, the Colo-Nesco Royals prevailed in a contest with Belle Plaine.
The score was tied after every quarter, but Colo-Nesco gave the last punch to come away with the victory.
The Plainsmen ran for 264 yards offensively, with 175 coming from Aidan Timm.
Wade Sankot caught three passes for 64 yards and a score.
Defensively, Will Sankot racked up a total of 14 tackles for the Plainsmen who move to 0-2 on the season.
Next up for the Plainsmen is Iowa Valley at home.
Montezuma 28, Springville 27
SPRINGVILLE — A weather delay made for a longer night then usual in Springville and a sloppy, wet field after play resumed.
Trailing 27-22 late in the fourth, Montezuma had one more chance to score for the win.
With near a minute remaining, quarterback Brady Boulton launched the ball deep to Luke Brennan in the endzone, and Brennan came down with it for the score from 36-yards out.
The Braves failed on the conversion but still led 28-27 and held up defensively to hold off the Orioles.
Boulton threw for 107 yards and ran for another 68, totaling four touchdowns. Broox Stockman led the team with 90 rushing yards.
Stockman also added 11 1/2 tackles on defense. Braxton Plants had 10 1/2.
Up next for the Braves is a big in-district game at Wayne.
BGM 47, Columbus 14
MUSCATINE — Back up to Class A and 11-player was no problem for BGM in its season opener.
The Bears led 19-14 at half and didn’t allow a point after but added 28 points to its own score in the second half.
Prolific quarterback Beau Burns had a staggering 427 yards rushing with six touchdowns on 30 carries while throwing for another 118 yards.
The 427 yards rushing is in the top-15 in the state for a single game. Burns also got an interception on defense.
Landon Hassett caught five passes for 57 yards.
Defensively, Landen Cooling had three tackles for loss for BGM.
The Bears will be on the road again Friday at Colfax-Mingo.
