Body found near Amana pond

AMANA -- The body of an unknown female was found Sunday near the picnic area at Amana’s lily pond, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.

The body was reported to the sheriff’s office by residents about 10:12 a.m. The body was identified and transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office Sunday.

Sheriff Rob Rotter said Tuesday that he was not able to secure a confirmed identification from the State Medical Examiner’s Office, and would not release the name of the deceased without it.

The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death.
